Many people sign up for an affiliate marketing opportunity, place a few ads, and sit back waiting for that first $1,000 or $50,000 to roll in with their name on it. Of course, only disappointment rolls in when they realize that this wasn’t a get-rich plan; it wasn’t even a make-a-few-extra-dollars plan. In some cases they do put the work in, but the affiliate commissions still aren’t coming, or tiny amouns are coming few and far between. Sometimes it’s not the work you do, but the product you’re marketing. There are a number of dos and don’ts when it comes to picking your affiliates that can make the difference between a disappointing venture and a profitable one.
Don’t choose an affiliate marketing opportunity just because other people are making money at it. That may sound like the opposite of what you want to do. You want the programs that are making people money, right? Not necessarily. It all depends on the program. If it’s something that intrigues you, that you think you can promote well, then it’s worth considering. But if a program called “Become a Millionaire Selling Futures Online” is the one that every top Internet marketer is drooling over right now, no matter how much money it makes them, if you know nothing about futures or the people who might be interested in this subject, it’ll take a lot of work for you to make a profit from it. And why not spend that time and do that work on something you already know about, and enjoy?
Do choose affiate programs that interest you. If you have a passion for something, it shows. Your website will have interesting content because you’re interested and you have knowledge to share. Choose an affiliate marketing opportunity that’s related to a subject that interests you, and you’ll naturally spend more time promoting it, and you’ll have a better chance at success.
Don’t use a free service for your website. Naturally you don’t want to spend a lot of money, especially not in the beginning when you’re not sure of your profits. But free services put ads on the page in the form of sidebars, banners and worst of all, pop-up advertisements. These make your website look cheap and less trustworthy.
Do purchase a domain name related to your topic. Don’t just buy a domain name called jimsbusiness.com and expect people to flock there. Decide what kind of affiliate marketing opportunity you’re going to promote first, then make sure that’s clear in your domain name.
Do promote a few related products. You can start out with one just to get your feet wet, but then casually add in references and links to a few more merchants offering related products and affiliate programs. This doesn’t just fill your site, it gives you more opportunities to sell.
Follow these dos and don’ts and read everything about Internet marketing that you can, and you’ll help yourself succeed with an affiliate marketing opportunity.

So you work a regular job, but when the money runs out each month there are still bills to pay, and you think affiliate marketing commissions probably won’t amount to enough to make the work worth your while. This might be true, right in the beginning. But like any new venture, sometimes things start slowly and then pick up speed when you have a little experience and confidence with what you’re doing.
The beauty of earning affiliate marketing commissions is that you don’t have to change careers to do it. You can keep that 40- or 60-hour a week job, so there’s no risk to you if it doesn’t work out (though there’s no reason that it shouldn’t). If you can just carve out a little bit of time to get started, and to put some effort into it, what may start small can become an extra chunk of income each month without you having to find a second part-time job or take on more overtime at work.
If you set up a website and market just one product, even if you’re doing everything right, you won’t make thousands of dollars the first month (at least, it’s not likely). But if you continue good promotion, add valid and interesting content to your site, get the word out about your site, get your site ranked well in the search engines, that one program can see you earning affiliate marketing commissions that might surprise you, for so little work.
But if you market several different affiliate programs on that website that keeps growing and getting more visitors, each one will earn you money, and you’ll end up with several income streams made up of affiliate marketing commissions from different sources.
It’s not uncommon for affiliate marketers to start out with one website and expand to several more quite quickly, with some people actually owning dozens of websites, each focused on a specific niche and type of products. The more you earn, the more can invest back into growing your affiliate marketing commissions, the more visitors you’ll get, and the more you’ll earn. . . it becomes a nice little circle of income that there’s no reason you can’t take advantage of.
A great way to earn several different marketing commissions is to use one of the many affiliate marketing companies available today. You sign up with one company, choose from the merchants who use them as payment collectors, get all of your affiliate materials and links in one place, and then you get paid all of your commissions at once through the affiliate marketing company.
These are great for beginners, because you can track statistics, clicks, how many people purchased and what percentage of clicks that came from each individual link. This allows you to see which worked best. You can adjust your efforts based on those performance reports, to earn more commissions and sales. It’s easy to get started making affiliate marketing commissions with just a little time, knowledge and effort.

If you’re looking to make some extra money, or build an entire business online, then affiliate marketing partnerships are a great way to get started. Affiliate marketing partnerships are free, and they’re easy to start. Just don’t make the mistake of thinking that because they’re cheap and easy, you won’t have to put a little effort in to really succeed. You can spend thousands of dollars on an “Internet business in a box” and the ads might have you believe that all you do is click a few links in some software, then sit back and let the money roll in.
They may even show successful entrepreneurs kicked back on a beach sipping fruity tropical drinks while their computer does all the hard work. While affiliate marketing partnerships are an incredibly easy and inexpensive way to get started making money online, you do have to do more than click a few buttons. It’s not hard work, though, if you know how to do it.
Most businesses, whether online or traditional stores, fail. There are several reasons this happens. The expenses are more than the business brings in, quickly putting in into the red so deeply that it would take years to see a profit, and no business can operate that way for very long, unless the owners have unlimited capital available to them.
An advantage of affiliate marketing partnerships is that this is unlikely to happen. You’re putting no money out when you sign up with an affiliate program. And the money that you spend to promote your affiliate merchant can be very minimal, to nothing, depending on how you choose to start out. So this particular problem retail stores have won’t affect your affiliate marketing potential.
Another reason traditional and online stores fail so quickly is that no one buys from them. You have to have customers, paying customers, to succeed in business. And in order for a person to become a customer, they have to first enter your store or browse your website. This is where affiliate marketing programs are brilliant for online merchants. They get people like you to sign up and promote their product, for a fee, called a commission.
The best way to make money with affiliate marketing partnerships is to maintain a website that you fill with related content. You can do this inexpensively or you can spend a lot of money, it depends on how much you know about making a website and how much you’re willing to learn. Once you have your site, write short articles filled with information that people visiting your site want to know. This makes it more than just a sales portal, it becomes a valuable resource that people will continue to visit, maybe sites with similar content with even link to yours, and more people will click on your affiliate links.
If you can attract people to your site or even write ads that entice people to click your affiliate marketing links, you can make money with affiliate marketing partnerships.

One of the best ways to get affiliate marketing leads is by using mailing lists. We’re not talking about the mailings lists people used to use, where you purchased a list of 1000s of names for a price and then sent offers through the mail to each one of them. But opt-in email mailing lists. You don’t have to buy names, people will give you their names, for free! Here’s an example.
You have a simple website where you offer helpful information about how to train pet birds to behave well or talk. Through that site you promote one or more affiliate marketing programs. Maybe you link to a CD that helps teach birds to talk and you make profits (or hope to) from the sales your link generates through affiliate marketing. Or maybe you link to a pet shop that sells bird supplies and you get a small commission on each person that clicks through or registers on their website.
Whatever type of affiliate marketing you have in place, as long as you have visitors to your site looking for information, you can generate affiliate marketing leads by using your own mailing list. It’s easy to get started.
There are many different software programs available online to help you manage a mailing list, from expensive programs with all the bells and whistles to free online programs. Choose one that fits your budget and your anticipated demand. You won’t need to spend a lot of money when you’re first starting out and if the operation expands dramatically you can always transfer your list to a higher-end provider later.
Once you have your mailing list software or service ready to go, it’s time to get affiliate marketing leads to go into it. If your site is about birds, as mentioned above, then you’re obviously providing information about birds to draw visitors there to click on your affiliate links. Simply ask people to register at your site, or to sign up for a mailing list or occasional mailings, with more of that great information. You can’t just throw a register box in there and hope, you have to entice a person to want to sign up. Maybe when they do, you’ll send them 10 tips on how to keep a bird from biting, or tips on the best way to make a quiet bird talk. Find something of value to your specific customers that you can offer to get them to sign up, or opt-in, to your list.
Once people opt-in, you have a ready-made audience for your affiliate marketing links. You no longer have to wait for them to visit your site. Write an article about birds or bird care, put together some tips, even just tell a bird story, include links to the programs you want to promote, and deliver it straight to their inboxes. This is an excellent way to generate affiliate marketing leads of people who are receptive to the products you’re selling.

Creating a successful email marketing design depends upon a few key points. The first key is to keep it simple. If your email contains a flashy attention-grabbing window of opportunity, but no real content, you’re not going to get the results most businesses desire. People steer clear of the gimmicks, so if your current campaign is ‘gimmicky’ you may want to consider revamping. If you make the decision to revamp consider the following.
Try a simple email newsletter. The reason for this is a recent report by Nielson Norman Group, the average e-mail user only reviews and Internet newsletter for an average of 50 seconds. Whereas, marketing campaigns boarded by e-mail only hold the reader’s attention for around four seconds. As you can see the newsletter format will hold your average readers attention 10 times more than the normal email. Which in turn brings us to the actual design of the newsletter or the e-mail.
It’s important to create a simple email marketing design that both captures the attention but also keeps the attention. The simple truth is that most consumers and e-mail users only read a fraction of the e-mails they receive. The rest of the e-mails that they actually open are merely scaned for content. Depending upon the individual, different advertising dynamics are found appealing. For this reason, you’re e-mail newsletter or advertisement should appeal to each of these demographics.
Aside from simplicity, an effective email marketing campaign will utilize ASIC principles of design. By promoting contrasting colors to draw the eye and call readers to action over the amplification of certain statements. You may also want to consider the very e-mail inboxes from standard for e-mailing sources. For example Hotmail and AOL both offer varying standards when it comes to opening e-mail. It’s a good idea to use colors and fonts that will be visually appealing in any e-mail genre.
Most e-mail forums have moved on to the concept that design segment should not contain more than 200 to 300 pixels. This means that your e-mail design should not be disproportionate. Try to ensure that you’re marketing design has a smooth flow and is distributed evenly for the entirety of the content.
There have been countless studies on how most Internet users read e-mail and various documents throughout the web. Your desire should be to gain reader attention and you can be sure to do this by using an e-mail marketing design. The most effective design is constructed around a five second view of any page. That means any information put on your page should be readable/scanable within a five second time constraint.
It’s a good idea to use your knowledge. When it comes to marketing and media, to ensure that your message takes up less real estate than standard e-mail advertisements. If your e-mail add takes up too much space or comes across too spammy, most ISPs will automatically filter it out as junk. The imagery you placed inside your e-mail should convey a rapid message, don’t make the mistake of using photos and logos for mere beautification. To make the most of your marketing campaign ensure that your pictures says something besides “I’m pretty”.
E-mail marketing is a rapid response industry. This means you must be certain to give your potential clients every opportunity to make contact with you. You can be easily contacted via contact information placeed within your messages. Be sure to include links to your site, your address information, your phone numbers, your fax number and any other information that can be used to contact you on a daily basis, in every e-mail that you send to potential clients.
Let’s face it! Without the proper email marketing design your email camapaign may well be predestined to fail. Knowledge is power! Use what you have learned here and from other resources well and your email campaign will stand a much better chance of adding profit to your bottom line.
